How to add a folder to Favorites in Mac OSX's Finder window

Neerav Mehta

I have been developing sites on Macbook Air since over a year now. I have created a special directory called "Sites" under /Users/<username>. This is where all my sites are located on localhost. I realized that there is no easy way to access folders under /Users/<username> through the GUI. Here is a nifty trick to add a shortcut to the desired folder in the Favorites section of the Finder window.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the Finder Window.
  2. Click on "File" -> "Find".
  3. In the top right search textfield, enter the folder name you want to link to.
  4. In the dropdown menu, filter by "Folder".
  5. Once you find the folder, drag and drop it in the Favorites.
